Summary:
Plant crops i.e., perennials, seasonal
and annuals. Timing of fertilization and cultural needs of crops.
Layout of crop and watering requirements. Setting staffing requirements
needed to produce crop and responsible for crop being finished on
time. Maintain a 95% mortality rate in all plant material grown
and stored in/outside of greenhouses. Also, hire, supervise, train
and review personnel.
Hiring Process:
Must have two years formal college education, or four years
greenhouse grower work experience; one year in a supervisory capacity,
valid CDL drivers license, and working knowledge of construction
procedures, tools, equipment and plant material.

Responsibilities:
1. Plan, organize
and hold training programs for employees so they'll know exactly
what is expected of them and complete performance tracking sheets.
2. Become familiar with Company Policy and enforce it on a daily
basis.
3. Report all accidents by filling out accident reports and turning
into the office on the day of the accident.
4. Complete termination and layoff forms as necessary and turn
in on a daily basis.
5. Maintain a good working relationship with your crew.
6. Control all overtime by monitoring labor hours and by hiring
a laborer to rotate between the crews.
7. When emergency purchases are necessary, "walk" the
purchase order/check request through the system physically or
by paging the appropriate people.
8. After the purchase approval, the grower will place the order
and arrange for delivery or pickup. Deliveries are to be scheduled
early in morning or late in the afternoon when the crew is at
the yard.
9. Control cost overruns by purchasing materials at or below proposed
cost by efficient and effective bidding out purchasing with no
less than three bids.
10. Keep lines of communication open with area managers, landscape
managers and senior management team.
11. Check equipment on a daily basis. Do minor repairs as needed.
12. Tag all broken equipment and turn into shop, when appropriate.
13. Bi-monthly inventory of materials to be taken. If necessary,
purchase orders will be filled out to maintain a minimum inventory.
14. Bi-monthly inventory of small tools to be taken to ensure
that all work will run smoothly.
15. Develop a TEAM ATTITUDE to make LILC the efficient and quality
oriented landscape contractor in the Greater Washington D.C. Metropolitan
area.
